Pharmacy Technician Initiative
The Virginia High School Pharmacy Technician Initiative was created by the Virginia Pharmacists Association with support from the Virginia Career Education Foundation. The goal of this initiative is to expand the numbers of certified pharmacy technicians throughout Virginia.
To accomplish this goal, the initiative takes several approaches.
First, it helps high schools around the state to develop excellent pharmacy technician courses—courses that prepare students for taking state and national certification exams.
Second, it promotes mentoring programs within the private sector that play a key role in preparing students for careers in pharmacy.
Finally, through exciting promotional materials geared specifically to today’s youth, this Initiative seeks to dispel myths about technical careers while simultaneously promoting a positive image of career and technical education for students.
By addressing issues of great importance (such as the availability of pharmacy technician training courses and the need for mentoring programs), the Virginia High School Pharmacy Technician Initiative actively responds to the increasing demand for certified technicians. It also provides a shining example of the work we do at the VCEF to promote career and technical education at the high school level.
